TotalEnergies hands over 100 resettlement houses to Tilenga PAPs

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the training and support they received, noting significant improvements in their lives post-resettlement.

Buliisa: Total Energies Uganda recently has handover the final batch of 100 resettlement houses, land titles, and start-up kits to the project-affected persons (PAPs) of the Tilenga project in Buliisa, Hoima, and Kikuube districts.

This event, held at Kibambura playgrounds in Buliisa district on Tuesday, was attended by various officials, including the Minister of State for Mineral Development, Phiona Nyamutooro.

The handover marks the successful conclusion of land acquisition and resettlement efforts, with nearly all of the 5,553 affected individuals compensated and 235 physically resettled.

The PAPs also received training in various vocational fields at Buhimba Technical Institute and other locations, equipping them for future employment.

During her speech, Nyamutooro emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that the Tilenga project brings long-term benefits to Uganda.

Local MPs, including Hon. Norah Bigirwa Nyendwoha and Hon. Allan Atugonza, highlighted the importance of addressing climate change impacts and urged beneficiaries to make good use of their start-up kits.

The event also included appeals for dialogue from those still seeking compensation, underscoring the community’s ongoing engagement with the project.
