Masindi: Unknown thugs have uprooted and stolen angle bars at Kibwona Health Centre II in Karujubu Division, Masindi Municipality.
In an exclusive interview with this publication on Friday, August 16, 2024, Solomon Asiimwe, the LC3 Chairperson for Karujubu Division, said that the 15 angle bars costing about five million shillings were uprooted and stolen last week on Wednesday.
He stressed that they had fenced off the health center to protect it from encroachers and thieves, but to their dismay, they were shocked to find 15 angle bars on one side uprooted and stolen.
‘’We had fenced off the health center from encroachers and thieves, but to our dismay, we were shocked after finding out that 15 angle bars had been uprooted and stolen.’’
Asiimwe disclosed that they have improvised wooden poles to hold the chain link as they look for funds to replace the uprooted and stolen angle bars.
He, however, said that the security guard who was on duty was arrested and made statements to the police. ‘’The security guard was arrested and made statements.’’
According to the security guard, the thugs uprooted and stole the angle bars when he was manning the other side of the health center.
Asiimwe stressed that cases of theft are rampant in the division, adding that some parents are also shielding their children involved in theft cases from being apprehended.
According to reports, the angle bars for Biizi Health Centre 11 and Kibyaama Health Centre have been uprooted and stolen. Early this week, police carried out an operation in Masindi town and Kijura, a suburb, and arrested over 300 suspected criminals.
In December last year, a security guard attached to Kigezi Health Centre III in Mirya Sub County Masindi district tragically took his own life after thieves broke in and stole items, including mosquito nets.
He allegedly took poison after thieves broke into the health center and stole a consignment of items during his time on duty.
Ayesiga Steven was confirmed dead at Masindi General Hospital.
