A number of both private and government cars have lost their numbers to unidentified thugs.
Masindi: Police in Masindi are holding three individuals suspected of plucking off and stealing motor vehicle number plates in the district.
A number of both private and government cars have lost their numbers to unidentified thugs.
Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, told journalists on Tuesday August 20, 2024 that the habit of plucking off number plates is currently on the rise.
As a result, a team of flying swords arrested three people last week on suspicion, and the suspects will lead the police to the real thieves.
Hakiza stressed that whenever the year comes to an end, such cases are registered with the police.
Following the operation that took place in Masindi district last week, over 300 people were arrested. Hakiza says that they screened and detained 185 people over common nonsense and possession of opium.
Hakiza explained that out of 185 people who were arrested, 66 were female, 41 were charged with being in possession of opium, and 144 were charged with common nuisance and remanded to Masindi Prisons.
The police officer noted that over 30 motorcycles that were impounded during the same operation are still parked at Masindi CPS, waiting for owners to pick them up with their particulars.
Hakiza said that these operations followed the public outcry of rampant theft and iron bar-hit men, adding that these operations will continue in the entire Albertine region, not just Masindi district.
