Thieves survive lynching in Masindi, residents burn their motorcycle

Masindi: Residents of Kyeema cell in Karujubu division, Masindi district, have burned a motorcycle that had been abandoned by suspected thieves in their area.
The incident happened night of Thursday when the thieves, who were traveling on a motorcycle, attempted to steal goats belonging to one of the residents in the area.
Jafari Kyoomya, the area LC1 chairperson, told our reporter that the thieves parked the motorcycle that they had hired from Kyongoyoma village in Pakanyi Sub County along Masindi-Kigumba road and went to steal the goats.
However, Kyoomya revealed that their plan was foiled by the residents, forcing them to flee and abandon the TVS motorcycle registration number UGF 779B, which the residents later set ablaze, burning beyond recognition.
He added that the motorcycle was later taken by police at Masindi station.
The chairperson noted that this is the second motorcycle to be abandoned in the area by thieves this month.
He revealed that the first one was abandoned by thieves who had wanted to steal from a bar in Kyeema trading center, but their move was also foiled by the residents, forcing them to abandon their motorcycle, which was later handed over to the police.

Recently, security arrested over 300 suspected criminals, screened and detained them over common nuisance and possession of opium.
Out of 185 people who were arrested, 66 were female, 41 were charged with being in possession of opium, and 144 were charged with common nuisance and remanded to Masindi Prisons.
In addition, 30 motorcycles were impounded during the same operation.
Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, recently told this publication that operations in the district followed the public outcry over increased theft cases.
Emmy Ngabirano, the Resident District Commissioner for Masindi, told this new portal that the operation would continue to crackdown on suspected criminals both in the town and rural subcounties and town councils.
