TERRIBLE! Two dead, five injured as police vehicle overturns in Buikwe

The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to Kawolo Hospital Mortuary for postmortem.

Buikwe: A fatal road accident occurred on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at around 8:00 AM in Buwooya Village along the Nyenga-Katosi Road, leaving two people dead and five others injured.

The incident involved a police vehicle, registration number UP 7503, a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, which overturned multiple times after the driver lost control.

The victims have been identified as; AIP Amasikido Esther (Injured), Achieng Mary (Female, 28 years old, Maid to AIP Amasikido Esther), and Mwidu Ethorn (Male, 6 years old, Son of AIP Amasikido Esther).

Others are Mwidu Elian (Male, 2 years old, Son of AIP Amasikido Esther) and  Okello (Male, Cousin to AIP Amasikido Esther).

The two deceased victims are identified as: Ejaapu Faustino (Cousin to AIP Amasikido Esther) and Driver Emusugutu Sam.

According to SP Hellen Butoto, the Sezibwa Region Police Spokesperson, the vehicle was traveling from Nyenga toward Mukono when the accident occurred. Upon reaching Buwooya Village, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road and overturned several times.

The injured were rushed to St. Charles Lwanga Hospital in Buikwe for treatment. Sadly, two victims succumbed to their injuries upon arrival. The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to Kawolo Hospital Mortuary for postmortem.

The motor vehicle has been towed to Ngogwe Police Station and awaits inspection by an Inspector of Vehicles (IOV). Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.

SP Hellen Butoto extended condolences to the families of the deceased and urged road users to exercise caution to prevent similar tragedies.
