TERRIBLE! Ten killed in Kagadi cult-related brutal attack
“There is a need for awareness around the dangers posed by such groups, especially as year-end tensions rise,” he noted.
Kagadi: Ten people have tragically lost their lives in a brutal attack linked to cult beliefs in Muzizi village, Busswaka parish, Kyaterekera sub-county, Kagadi district.
The assault, which occurred on October 29, involved two brothers, Baguma Obed and Munyirambe David, who reportedly targeted family members for rejecting their cult’s teachings.
Albertine Region Police Spokesperson Julius Allan Hakiza confirmed that eight residents were killed and another eight injured. Security forces quickly responded, neutralizing two suspects during their arrest. “Mostly when the year comes closer to an end, such incidents happen since people tend to look for money by all means,” he stressed.
The deceased have been identified as Nyirambe Boniface Rodgers, Yokania Esakara (76 years old), Gabuwera Erinorah (64), Muhindo Praise (8), kamugwanika (44), masika kabagenyi (3), Baruk Fednard (13), and Kabugho Oliver.
Major Bilal Katamba from Operation Shujaa reassured the community that security is now stable, with efforts underway to locate other members of the cult. “The unfortunate incident happened on Tuesday at around 8:30 pm, but currently, the UPDF, Uganda Police, and other security agencies are on the ground to hunt for these cult members and the leaders who orchestrated this act against the locals,” he said.
Fred Talemwa, LC3 chairperson, attributed the motive to a dispute over the “God, Holy Spirit, Son, Man-Man” cult teachings. He emphasized that the two brothers attacked their relatives, including their father, mother, and sisters, for refusing to convert to their religion. Initially, the victims were associated with the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
“There is a need for awareness around the dangers posed by such groups, especially as year-end tensions rise,” he noted.
