TERRIBLE! One dead, 10 unconscious after alleged poisoning

The drink is suspected to have been poisoned by an unknown person.

Pader: At least 11 people are suspected to have consumed poisoned Acholi local drink, Kasimuru, in Lader Dog Village, Ongany Parish, Pader Subcounty, Pader District.

According to Aswa East Acting Regional Police Spokesperson, Inspector of Police (IP) Joe Oloya, the incident occurred on December 26, 2024, when Abunyo Christine, who is also a victim, prepared the local drink mixed with sesame (simsim) for consumption.

The drink is suspected to have been poisoned by an unknown person.

Shortly after drinking the juice, the victims began vomiting and experiencing diarrhea. The Local Council I (LCI) Chairperson, upon receiving the information, quickly responded and arrived at the scene, where the deceased was found in critical condition.

Unfortunately, the victim passed away while being transported to the hospital.

The remaining victims, including both children and adults, were rushed to Kilak Health Center III for medical treatment. The incident was reported to Kilak Police Station for further management and investigation.

The deceased has been identified as Omara Steven, a 3-year-old child. The other victims are Kilama Denis (58 years), Abunyo Christine (48 years), Ojara Andrew (25 years), Lamara Sharon (7 years), Oyuba Brian (14 years), Okot Joel (7 years), Okot James (9 years), Aceng Gloria (12 years), Amarorwot Angle (4 years), and Wokorach Brian (11 years).

IP Oloya stated that a case of alleged food poisoning has been registered, and statements have been obtained from the reporter and some of the victims.

The body of the deceased was taken to Pajule Health Center IV for a postmortem.

The suspected poisoned drink, which was contained in a 20-liter jerrican, has been recovered. Samples will be sent to the Government Analytical Laboratory Services (GALS) for analysis. However, the suspects responsible for the poisoning are yet to be identified or arrested.

The police have urged the public to remain calm and vigilant and assist in identifying those responsible. Investigations are ongoing, and the public is encouraged to report any information that could help with the arrest of the culprits.
