TERRIBLE! Mob kills police constable at burial of inmate
The body of the deceased officer was transported to Ruhoko Health Centre mortuary for post-mortem.
Ibanda: An unfortunate and violent incident occurred in Ibanda District on Sunday, when a mob attacked and killed a police constable, identified as Chemonges Suleiman, during the burial of an inmate.
The tragic event unfolded as Suleiman was assigned to guard the funeral of Kahangire Lazarus, an inmate who had recently died at Nyabuhikye Government Prison in Ibanda.
According to SP Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Regional Police Spokesperson, the 28-year-old constable, who was attached to Bisheshe Police Station, was killed on the spot by an irate mob.
Police immediately responded to the scene, where they recovered an SMG rifle and 16 rounds of ammunition. The body of the deceased officer was transported to Ruhoko Health Centre mortuary for post-mortem.
The police have strongly condemned this senseless act of violence and assured the public that they are actively investigating the incident.
SP Kasasira assured that all individuals involved in the attack will be arrested and brought to justice. The attack has left the community in shock, and local authorities are calling for calm as they continue to investigate.
The Rwizi Regional Police command has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of the community.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the mob’s identity or the incident to come forward.
