TERRIBLE! Lightning kills 14 during prayers in Lamwo

Most of the deceased were refugees from the Nuer community.

Lamwo: A tragic incident occurred in Lamwo, Uganda, when lightning struck a church during prayers, killing 14 young people between the ages of 14 and 18.

The disaster took place at Palabek Refugee Settlement, Zone 8 Block 2, as a storm drove people to seek shelter in a makeshift church.

Of the 48 people struck, 14 died instantly, while others suffered injuries and were taken to Paluda Health Center III for treatment.

The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Lamwo, William Komakech, confirmed the incident, and by 10 a.m. on Sunday, he had met with families of the victims to arrange for the distribution of bodies and burial preparations.

Most of the deceased were refugees from the Nuer community.

Local Member of Parliament and Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness, and Refugees, Hillary Onek Obaloker, expressed his shock at the tragic event, which has deeply affected the refugee community and surrounding areas.
