TERRIBLE! Kagadi man kills wife, hangs self

The police officer advises the couples to always seek counseling rather than taking the law into their own hands.

Kagadi: A devastating incident has shaken the residents of Karuswiga West Cell, Muhorro Town Council in Kagadi District, after a man killed his wife and then took his own life.

Peter Bahabuza, 30, hanged himself on Sunday, August 11, 2024, after murdering his 19-year-old wife, Patience Namukasa, under unclear circumstances.

The couple leaves behind three children. The community is in distress, with local leaders condemning the act and attributing it to domestic violence.

Mr. Namanya Jackson, the vice chairman for Karuswiga West Cell, expressed disbelief, noting that he had never received any complaints about the couple during their six-year marriage.

He urged residents to seek advice from local leaders in cases of family disputes rather than resorting to violence. ‘’I condemn the act, and it’s very bad. Couples should seek other ways of solving their disputes than killing themselves.’’

The LC3 Chairperson for Muhorro Town Council, Nangonza Godfrey, has expressed concern over the rising number of murder cases in the area.

Nagonza has warned women to be cautious of their partners and emphasized the need for married couples to report domestic disputes to leaders rather than resorting to violence.

Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, disclosed that it’s alleged that on Saturday, August 10, 2024, during the day, the couples got into misunderstandings where the husband was accusing his wife of having another love affair.

Hakiza explains that on August 11, 2024, in the morning, one of the neighbors of the deceased went to fetch water and saw Bahabuza hanging on a mango tree.

He adds that when they went to inform the wife, they also found her in the house, lying dead in a pool of blood on the bed.

Hakiza suspects the man to have killed the wife before taking his own life. The police officer advises the couples to always seek counseling rather than taking the law into their own hands.
