Terego district council condemns attack on RDC Angalia

"Those who participated in the demonstration should be held liable," he said.

Terego: The Terego District Council has strongly condemned the recent attack on Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Angalia Godwin Kasigwa, following an illegal demonstration on March 25, 2025.

During a special council sitting on March 27, 2025, district leaders denounced the protest, emphasizing that many demonstrators were unaware of its purpose.

Terego District Chairman, Wilfred Saka, criticized the protest for lacking a clear agenda, reaffirming the district’s readiness to work with any RDC deployed.

“Even the demonstrators were unaware of the purpose of the protest. As a district, we are ready to work with any RDC assigned to us,” Saka stated.

Sunday Ayikoru, Leader of Government Business and Vice Chairperson LCV, commended RDC Angalia for promoting unity while denouncing the protest.

“We haven’t faced any challenges with Angalia because he has promoted unity in the district. Those demonstrating against him have their own selfish intentions,” Ayikoru asserted.

Hon. Siraji Onzima, Male PWD Representative, called for accountability. “Those who participated in the demonstration should be held liable,” he said.

RDC Angalia, who was transferred from Kibaale District to Terego in September 2024, dismissed the protest’s impact on his leadership.

“My capacity to work with the district chairperson, CAO, councillors, and technical staff cannot be hindered. Those who demonstrated against me should apologize,” he stated.

Background of the protest

District leaders have accused Obiga Kania, the Member of Parliament for Terego East, of allegedly sowing division within the district.

Hon. Wilfred Saka claimed Obiga’s group misled people, falsely presenting the protest as a prayer gathering for road accident victims.

Saka criticized Obiga’s political conduct, accusing him of stirring conflicts among leaders.

Similar incidents allegedly involving Obiga and Deputy RDC Onyango Emokol have been reported, including a 2022 conflict with former RDC Ajilong Bessie Modesta.

The district council resolved that MP Obiga Kania should apologize to the Terego District Local Government for causing insecurity.

Additionally, the appointing authority should immediately transfer Deputy RDC Onyango Emokol and Assistant RDC Munduni Ross for allegedly facilitating the illegal demonstration.

Efforts to obtain a comment from the accused parties were unsuccessful at press time.
