Masindi: The AIDS Support Organization (TASO) Masindi is seeking one billion shillings for the construction of an HIV treatment center.
Speaking to www.ugreports.co.ug on Thursday, Edmund Tayebwa, the TASO Manager Masindi, said that through various avenues, they have already realized 30 million shillings to support the initial phase.
According to Tayebwa, they are organizing the TASO run, which is scheduled for the 26th of this month, as one of the ways of realizing more funds, adding that at the same function, they will break ground for the construction of the treatment center, and Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja will be the chief guest.
He said that immediately after the ground breaking, the construction of the treatment center will kick off and will be done in a phased manner.
Tayebwa adds that they have embarked on the project having been allocated land by the district leadership and this facility will be the center for excellence in HIV care, serving people in the entire Bunyoro sub region.
‘’Through various avenues, a total of 30 million shillings has been realized to support the initial phase, and the entire project is estimated at one billion shillings. We are seeking more funds through the purchase of running kits, which cost 25,000 shillings each,’’ he said.
He therefore said that the construction of the treatment center will improve service delivery and provide privacy for their clients, adding that currently, TASO occupies part of the private wing of Masindi General Hospital, which should be operationalized to offer more specialized health services to the community.
The TASO run, which is scheduled to take place on the 26th of this month, will start at exactly 7 a.m. at MTN Service Centre Grounds, covering 2km, 5 km, and 10km, and therefore after the official grounding breaking ceremony for the construction project adjacent to Masindi General Hospital.
