Suspended Masindi reverends face disciplinary action

It was decided that the disciplinary committee would convene to address the matter and reach a resolution.

Masindi: Masindi Kitara Diocese is dealing with a sensitive situation involving two suspended reverends.

According to the diocesan secretary, Reverend Canon Joshua Kugonza, the reverends, whose names remain undisclosed, are facing disciplinary action due to alleged misconduct.

During the two-day diocesan synod that ended on Friday, June 21, 2024, held at St. Matthews Cathedral Church of Uganda Masindi Town, it was decided that the disciplinary committee would convene to address the matter and reach a resolution.

Additionally, the Bishop of Masindi Kitara Diocese, Rt. Reverend George William Asiimwe Kasanganki, has taken decisive action by dismissing two other reverends, Reverend Henry Kauya and his wife, Reverend Sylvia Kauya.

They had broken away from the Anglican Church and established their own congregation.

Reverend Henry Kauya is further accused of marrying another wife, which goes against Anglican Church doctrines.

Reverend Kugonza told this news portal that the bishop will formally communicate the dismissal to them and await their response stressing that despite efforts spanning eight years, the dismissed reverends have not returned to the Anglican fold.

Reverend Kugonza’s advice to fellow reverends, preachers, and Christians emphasizes walking the righteous path and avoiding sinful behavior while remaining committed to serving the Lord.

It’s evident that the situation involving Reverend Henry Kauya and his wife, Reverend Sylvia Kauya, remains complex.

Reverend Canon Jackson Kauya, the Chairperson of the Disciplinary Committee, told this publication that despite efforts by the Disciplinary Committee to reconcile them with the Anglican Church, their return has not materialized.

‘’If Reverend Henry Kauya pleads guilty, there may be forgiveness, but he won’t be permitted to continue serving. ‘’

He said it’s worth noting that when they initially separated, attempts were made to resolve the matter, but Reverend Henry declined. Meanwhile, Reverend Sylvia Kauya has returned to Fort Portal, while Henry Kauya has established a church in Buliisa district.

The two-day diocesan synod brought together various reverends from the Masindi Kitara Diocese, providing an opportunity for discussion and decision-making on important matters within the church.
