Suspect on run as Lamwo authorities close illegal adulterated alcohol production point
Products must be certified by the UNBS, and non-compliance can result in severe penalties.
Lamwo: Lamwo district RDC, Oceng Geoffrey Osborne, who also doubles as the Chairperson of the District Security Committee, has closed an illegal production and sale point for adulterated alcohol known as “Guu” in Palabek Kal Town Council and its surroundings.
Commissioner Oceng told this publication on Friday that the sale of adulterated alcohol is illegal.
The production and selling points have been shut down, and samples have been taken to the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) for testing.
He added that they impounded over forty jerrycans of already mixed ethanol at Palabek Kal Town Council.

Meanwhile, a man identified as Mr. Birungi Wilber Joseph, who had relocated to Palabek a month ago, is on the run on allegations of selling adulterated alcohol.
According to the authorities, his products have never been certified by the relevant agency in the country.
According to the UNBS Act, the Uganda National Bureau of Standards mandates that all products, including alcoholic beverages, must meet specified standards before they are allowed on the market.
Products must be certified by the UNBS, and non-compliance can result in severe penalties.
Under the Penal Code Act, anyone found guilty of selling harmful or adulterated products can face criminal charges. This includes the sale of fake or counterfeit alcohol.
