Sugarcane truck burned after causing an accident in Masindi
This the third incident to happen in Masindi in the space of three months.
Masindi: Angry residents of Ikoba village in Bujenje Constituency Masindi district have reportedly burned a sugarcane truck registration number UBJ 583J after causing an accident.
The incident happened at around 9:30pm on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at Ikoba Village in Bujenje Constituency, Masindi district.
It claimed the life of boda boda rider identified as Julius Kasangaki, a resident of the same area who was staging at Ikoba trading centre.
He was coming from Masindi town side, rammed into the stationary truck and died on the spot.
Ronald Ntamara, the LC1 Defense Chairperson for Ikoba village told this pubication that the incident happened when the driver had parked the truck without lights and at the sharp corner.
He said after being informed of the incident, contacted the police but unfortunately by the time they rushed to the scene the truck had already burned.
He blamed the UNRA for failing to install humps in the trading centre since the road is busy and connects many sugarcane trucks transporting sugarcanes to Kinyara Sugar Ltd, Hoima Sugar factory, Kiryandongo Sugar factory and Luwero sugar factory.
Venkatesh Eshwar, a worker attached to Emperor Transport that was contracted by Kinyara Sugar Ltd says that the incident happened when the driver had gone to buy something to eat at the same trading centre.
He also blamed the locals for taking the law in their hands by burning the company vehicle.
Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson confirmed the incident on phone call and said that the rider was riding the motorcycle without light thus ramming into the stationary truck.
He warned the public against taking laws into their hands.
By the time we filed this article, the lifeless body of Julius Kasangaki was at Masindi Hospital Mortuary, pending postmortem, and police were already at the scene, towering off the truck from the road.
When contacted for a comment, Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, said he was yet to get the particulars of the incident.
This is the third incident to happen in Masindi this year. On July 31, 2024, a truck transporting merchandise caught fire and burned to ashes in Masindi district.
The truck registration number UBF 211F was en route to Paidha in West Nile from Uganda’s capital, Kampala.
The incident happened on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at around 10:24 a.m. along Masindi-Biiso Road at Bwinamira village in Budongo Sub County, Bujenje County.
On July 1, 2024, a South Sudan’s Safari Bus registration number 6887AK 05 caught fire along the Masindi-Kichumbanyobo road en route to Uganda’s capital, Kampala.
The incident happened at around 9 a.m. at Murchison Fall National Park’s Kichumbanyobo Gate in Kigarara Village, Buruli Constituency, Masindi district.
