Bukedea: The office of the right honorable speaker Annet Among Anita on Thursday donated financial seed capital support worth millions of dollars to the village savings groups in the subcounties of Bukedea and Malera county in Bukedea district.
A total of 86 groups benefited from both subcounties, each receiving five million shillings as seed capital.
The beneficiaries are women and youth.
Mr. Simon Alemu, one of the Anita Foundation’s coordinators, says the donation of seed capital was a speaker’s pledge aimed at eradicating poverty among the people.
“This money was the speaker’s pledge, and its aim is to eradicate poverty from households,” said Mr. Alemu.
Ms. Josphine Okwerede, a woman of six children who hails from Kokwech village and is one of the beneficiaries, told this publication that paying school fees for the children has been a big problem.
“I have six children and have been struggling with how to pay school fees. Markets are closed, but I’m happy. The speaker has given us some support, and now I can borrow and pay fees for my child,” said Ms. Okwerede.
Merab Akayo, another mother of four children, also said her children are currently out of school due to a lack of school fees.
He said that with the speaker’s support, her children can now report to school.
Ms. Jacenta Agnes Kedi, a mother of ten children, also said her children are also at home due to a lack of school fees.
