Masindi: The lifeless body of Dr. Jino Abiriga, the slain Acting Masindi District Health Officer (DHO), has been conveyed to Mulago National Referral Hospital for autopsy.
Dr. Abiriga was this morning discovered dead near his residence in Kijura North Cell, Central Division, Masindi Municipality.
The slain doctor was hacked on the neck and back.
Emmy Ngabirano, the Masindi Resident District Commissioner, has asked the public to remain calm and refute unconfirmed reports regarding the brutal murder of Abiriga as investigations take shape.
‘’It’s unfortunate that the public, including leaders, is trading unconfirmed reports regarding the death of a senior medical officer; kindly disregard them because investigations are still ongoing,’’ he advised.
He said unconfirmed reports jeopardize investigations.
Ngabirano, however, urged whoever has credible information that can lead to the arrest of suspected murderers to report to the relevant authorities.
‘’If all goes well, we shall have the autopsy report by tomorrow morning. Currently, some of the deceased’s relatives are at the police to record statements that will aid in the investigations,’’ he said.
Sanyu Phiona, the Masindi Chief Administrative Officer, asked the public to pay attention to the ongoing investigations into the brutal murder of the doctor.
‘’It’s unfortunate to lose our acting district health officer in such a brutal way, the district has been left speechless,’’ she added.
Sanyu said that the district has been shocked over their colleague’s death, stressing that it will be hard to replace him, mostly in this hard time of searching for the district health officer.
‘’He was killed at the time we were searching for the district health officer. It will be hard to replace him because he has been a committed and hardworking man,’’ he said.
