Six perish as Taxi – Sugarcane truck collide along Jinja-Iganga Highway

Iganga: A devastating collision between a taxi (UBP 574J) from Namisindwa and a Fuso box body truck (UAF 333B) occurred around Kakira on the Jinja-Iganga Highway, resulting in six fatalities and eight critically injured individuals.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident happened at approximately 5:00 a.m. when the taxi collided with the sugarcane truck, which had been stationary due to mechanical issues.
Some of the deceased have been identified as Namutosi Beatrice, Mulungo Asuman, and Naigaga Mary (all from Manafwa).
Kiira Region Police Spokesperson, James Mubi, confirmed the incident but stated that the identities of the other deceased are still undisclosed. He said the police are investigating the matter, as the injured individuals were taken to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital for treatment, while the bodies have been transported to Jinja Mortuary for postmortem reports.
Mubi also warned drivers to always activate road signs when their vehicles are stationary due to mechanical faults, in order to avoid such tragic accidents.
He added that operations are ongoing to arrest DMC cars involved in similar incidents.
