Six nominated for Kisoro Woman MP by-election seat

Voting is scheduled for November 14, 2024.

Kisoro:  Six candidates have been nominated for the Kisoro District Woman Member of Parliament by-election, following a two-day nomination exercise at the Kisoro District Council Hall.

The nominations were supervised by Daniel Nayebare, the returning officer, along with other Electoral Commission officials.

On the first day, Rose Kabageni from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and Juliet Musanasa from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) were nominated.

The second day saw four more candidates enter the race: Aisha Cyimpaye of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), independent candidate Grace Akifeza Ngabirano, Zubeda Sultana Tana Salim from the National Unity Platform (NUP), and Mable Ngabire from the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC).

Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake urged voters to embrace change, highlighting ongoing issues like poor roads and corruption, despite the region’s tourism potential.

Tana, also advocating for change, led a procession through Kisoro town with NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, who expressed gratitude for the community’s support and emphasized the need for new leadership.

Campaigning is set to begin today, November 1, 2024, after candidates submit their schedules for coordination. This by-election is necessary due to the recent passing of MP and State Minister of Defense, Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke, on September 7, 2024. Voting is scheduled for November 14, 2024.
