Sironko FDC leaders defect to ruling NRM

He encouraged them to embrace the party’s principles and recruit more supporters into the ruling party.

Sironko: A section of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) leaders in Sironko District has crossed over to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), citing admiration for the leadership of Eng. Julius Nakiyi, an NRM parliamentary aspirant for Budadiri East.

Among the defectors is Paul Nangoli, the Busulani LCV councilor and an FDC cardholder.

Nangoli admitted that although he has long been associated with the opposition, many people have known him as a personal assistant to Nakiyi.

He revealed that Nakiyi convinced him to officially join the NRM, promising to mobilize support for him and safeguard his votes to prevent a repeat of the alleged 2015 NRM primary election fraud.

Another key defector is Stephen Madanda, the LC1 chairman of Namaguli, who joined NRM along with his entire family. Once a staunch FDC mobilizer known as the “Symbol of Defiance”, Madanda stated that Nakiyi played a crucial role in his decision.

He pledged to actively campaign for Nakiyi ahead of the elections.

NRM Sironko district administrative assistant, Wilson Wambaka, officially welcomed the new members and handed them NRM party cards.

He encouraged them to embrace the party’s principles and recruit more supporters into the ruling party.

Speaking on the defections, Julius Nakiyi emphasized the importance of prioritizing people’s interests over party affiliations. He reassured voters that, if elected, he would serve all residents, regardless of their political background.

However, Patrick Waniaye, the FDC chairman for Sironko, downplayed the defections, claiming that the individuals mentioned were already working with NRM.

He insisted that FDC structures in the district remain strong and focused on grassroots mobilization and vetting candidates for the upcoming elections.
