Buliisa: The government of Uganda, through the Ministry of Water, recently commissioned a one billion shillings piped water supply system project in Kihungya sub-county Buliisa District.
The water supply system commissioned in the district is a significant step toward improving access to clean water for residents in the area.
The two water systems are located in Kyabarungi and Kiizi villages. These systems will serve over 2000 residents across eleven villages in the four parishes of Kagera, Waaki, Nyeramya, and Garasoya.
The Ministry of Water and Environment collaborated with the Indian government through its India Exim Bank and World Vision Uganda to fund and implement the project.
Presiding over the technical commissioning of the Kihungya water supply system, the Commissioner of Rural Water, Eng. Joseph Eyatu Oriono, who represented the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water and Environment, assured residents that water supply will be extended to every village in the district.
Orion said they kicked off the commissioning in Kyankwanzi District, and the project aims at helping fill the needs and gaps in the areas that lack water.
The goal was to address water scarcity and improve access to safe water sources.
The extension of water supply to these villages will enhance sanitation in homes and contribute to better health outcomes by reducing waterborne diseases.
