Shock as Hoima residents find coffin at doorstep of family home
The coffin has since been taken into police custody as investigations continue.

Hoima: Residents of Ruyanja West Cell in Kibingo Ward are gripped by fear and confusion following the discovery of a coffin containing a panga at the doorstep of a family home.
The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning at the residence of Alituha Godfrey and his wife, Harriet Nyamaizi.
According to Nyamaizi, she had woken up to prepare her children for school when she stumbled upon the disturbing sight.
“I woke up very early to prepare the children for school. It was very surprising to find a coffin right at my door. When I saw it, I was shocked and began screaming ‘Jesus’ before collapsing. My husband later found me lying down,” she recounted.
The coffin, wrapped in a purple cloth, had been placed directly at the entrance of the couple’s home, leaving both the family and neighbors deeply unsettled.
Residents quickly alerted local leaders and police, who responded to the scene. Godfrey was reportedly too shaken to speak to the media.
Johnson Mwesigwa, the area vice chairperson, said earlier reports indicated that two unidentified individuals were seen transporting a coffin on a motorcycle along the Hoima–Bugambe road between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. the previous night.
“Residents saw a man and a woman carrying a coffin partially covered with a sack. It remains unclear how it ended up at a resident’s home,” he explained.
Local Council One chairperson Kiiza Erukana, also known as Katefali, linked the incident to possible underlying community disputes.
“There are many complaints within the community. As leaders, we must analyze these issues to prevent such behaviors,” he said.
Police from Kasingo Police Station in Hoima West Division have launched investigations into the matter. Sniffer dogs were deployed to track possible leads, but no suspects have been arrested so far.
The coffin has since been taken into police custody as investigations continue.
Authorities have yet to provide further details regarding the progress of the case.
