Kakumiro: Seven people died following a fatal road accident Monday morning at Kabale Swamp in Katikara Sub County, Kakumiro District.

Roger, the driver of the Toyota Wish and a resident of Kihuuna, Kakindo Sub County, died on the spot. Several other victims were rushed to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, where some reportedly succumbed to their injuries.
According to eyewitness Kyakutegekeire, the Toyota Wish driver (Roger) was heading towards Hoima City when he attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided head-on with the oncoming Toyota Drone Taxi, which was traveling towards Mubende and driven by Silaj Kugumisiriza Kahwa.
“The accident was caused by speeding and reckless overtaking,” Kyakutegekeire noted.
Sunday William, the district councilor for Katikara Sub County, expressed concern over the rising accident rates on the Kakumiro-Hoima highway.
“Just last evening, a Fuso truck collided with a motorcycle, killing two people. Speeding and reckless driving are the major causes of these tragic accidents,” he said.
He urged road users to exercise caution and prioritize safety to prevent further loss of lives.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the accident but noted that investigations are still ongoing to establish the exact number of fatalities.
“It’s true the accident happened, but we will provide updates to the media regarding the confirmed death toll,” Hakiza stated.
With the increasing number of fatal crashes in the region, authorities are urging drivers to avoid reckless overtaking, reduce speeding, and strictly follow traffic rules.
