He stressed that the suspect, who’s in cells after discovering that the girl is pregnant, went ahead to carry out a secret abortion.
Bukedea: Police in Bukedea district are holding Emmanuel Opio, a self-proclaimed apostle, on allegations of defiling, impregnating, and carrying out abortion on a 15-year-old girl.
The suspect is currently detained at Bukedea Central Police Station.
The victims whose names have been withheld is, a resident of Agoloto village, Acuru Parish, Koena Sub County in Bukedea district.
Richard Asiimwe, the Bukedea District Police Commander, confirmed the arrest of Emmanuel Opio and said he is detained at Bukedea Central Police Station pending investigations.
‘’He was arrested on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, and we have him in our custody pending investigations.’’
It’s alleged that in June this year, the victim contained persistent body illness, which caused her mother, one Naume Ajore, to contact some of her friends for the apostolic support. However, the apostle developed feelings for the girl.
“When she called the apostle, he (the apostle) picked feelings for the girl until he impregnated her,” said DPC Asiimwe.
Mr. Asiimwe added that the suspect, who’s in cells after discovering that the girl is pregnant, went ahead to carry out a secret abortion.
“The suspect was in hiding after realizing that the mother of the victim had reported a case of defilement and forced abortion, so with the support of police, we managed to arrest him from Serere, and I want to report that he is in our custody,” added Asiimwe.
Mr. Asiimwe also added that the victim was subjected to treatment; however, the suspect is liable to face two charges of defilement and forced abortion.
“The apostle’s religious affiliation is not clear; we are yet to interrogate for further information,” said Asiimwe.
