Security takes control of Bunyoro Kingdom premises
Currently, Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom is facing a leadership conflict.
Hoima: Police in the Albertine region have vowed not to leave the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom headquarters until the two parties pulling ropes harmonize.
While addressing journalists on Monday, September 23, 2024, in Hoima City, Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson said they have maintained security at the kingdom headquarters because they are anticipating chaos.
‘’Security has been deployed at the kingdom premises since last week because we were anticipating chaos due to ongoing leadership conflicts in the kingdom,’’ he said.
Currently, Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom is facing a leadership conflict. This follows the expiration of the contract for Prime Minister Andrew Byakutaga.
Byakutaga, whose contract expired last year, was extended to June this year and has been working alone without the cabinet.
Recently, the Chief Prince (Okwiri), Eng. Fred Mugenyi appointed the interim prime minister and asked Byakutaga to hand over office to the interim prime minister.
However, Byakutaga refused to vacate the office, terming the appointment of the interim leadership ‘illegal’.
‘’When we realized the situation was going to be out of their hands, we had to deploy security, and now we have taken control of the place and we shall not entertain any chaotic elements at the palace,’’ Hakiza said.
The regional police mouthpiece also assured the kingdom officials that they work normally and they will not entertain any kind of violence at the palace.
Hakiza, however, clarified that they don’t want to interfere in the kingdom’s work, but purely to provide security so that they can do their work without any interference.
