Security guard shot dead, two arrested

Jinja: Two private security guards in Jinja have been arrested following a fatal shooting incident in Buwenge town council, Jinja district.
The suspects, identified as John Ssabagabo, 20, and Patrick Obbo, 40, are employed by Wolves Security and were on duty at an MTN Service Centre in the area.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, around 1 a.m., when two unidentified attackers confronted the guards. During the attack, Calvin Abia, a guard from Ultimate Security who was assigned to EV Assets Management Company Limited, was fatally shot.
Abia had reportedly left his post to check on Ssabagabo, a former colleague from Wolves Security, when he was struck by a single bullet to the head. His body was subsequently taken to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem.
According to James Mubi, the Police PRO for Kiira/Jinja region, a police sniffer dog was deployed at the scene, and one spent cartridge was recovered for forensic examination.
He confirmed that investigations are actively ongoing, with prosecution authorities overseeing efforts to apprehend the attackers and recover the SAR rifle used in the crime.
