Security guard arrested over gun theft

The suspect is currently in police custody and being charged with gun theft.

Hoima: Police in Hoima City are holding Ronald Ongara for allegedly stealing a gun belonging to Ladder Take Security Company.

Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine regional police spokesperson, explained that on May 182024, a case was reported at around 10:57 a.m. that Ongara had stolen a gun.

Hakiza says the area supervisor, Ladder Takes Security Company Daniel Omari, deployed the two identified as Asiimwe and Nsereko to work at JPK Hardware at night, but since Asiimwe was not feeling well, they replaced him with Ongara.

The regional police mouthpiece adds that Ongara went back to his home in the morning without returning the gun to where it was kept and even switched off his phone.

He said later in the evening, Ongara was sighted in a bar in Kinubi, where he was arrested, and the gun recovered with four rounds of ammunition in it.

The suspect is currently in police custody and being charged with gun theft.

Hakiza called upon private security companies to always vet their guards properly before deployment.
