SAD! Kagadi man chops off wife’s hands after divorce

Kagadi: Police in Kagadi district are hunting for a man who chopped off his estranged wife’s two hands and left her before fleeing the scene of the crime.
The victim has been identified as Rose Basemera, 22 years old, a resident of Nsugasugi B, Kanyangoma parish in Kagadi Sub-county, and is currently nursing serious injuries at Kagadi government general hospital.
According to Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson Allan Julius Hakiza, the suspect, identified as Eldad Byaruhanga, attacked his former wife from her aunt’s place in Nsugasugi village, where she had visited to check on her children.
Hakiza asserts that the suspect found the victim asleep at around 8:00 p.m. and cut off her two hands before fleeing the scene.
He attributes the act to domestic violence, adding that police have started investigations that will lead to the arrest of the suspect.
The police officer warns residents against taking laws into their own hands, asking residents with grudges to always report to authorities for reconciliation and peaceful resolution.
Meanwhile, Rose Basemera told ugreports.co.ug from her sick bed that she separated with her husband in November last year over his intolerable character, asserting that she was harmed from her aunt’s place.
She says that by the time of an attack on her life, she was sick and taking a rest.
Joseline Nyamate, the aunt of the victim, says the incident happened while she was at the mosque for prayers.
The police have commenced a manhunt for the suspect.
