SAD! 13-year-old girl murdered in Nebbi

According to police, her body was discovered in a nearby garden by relatives and members of the local community.

Nebbi: Police in Nebbi District are investigating the alleged murder of 13-year-old Jovian Yikparwoth, a resident of Atyak Village, Kalwang Parish, Nebbi Sub-County, and a pupil at Patek Paduk Primary School.

The tragic incident occurred on Thursday, January 2, 2025, when Jovian, accompanied by two friends, was attacked by a group of three unidentified individuals around 6:00 a.m. as they were returning from a social gathering.

According to police, her body was discovered in a nearby garden by relatives and members of the local community.

West Nile Region Police Spokesperson SP Collins Asea confirmed the incident, stating that one suspect, identified as Roy Okurboth, has been arrested to assist with the investigation.

A canine dog led investigators to Okurboth’s shop, where further evidence was gathered.

“At approximately 6:00 a.m., 13-year-old female pupil of Patek Paduk Primary School, identified as Yikparwoth Jovian, was reportedly attacked while walking with two friends. The group was returning from a social event within Atyak Village and heading to the home of her brother in Moro Central Village,’’ Asea explained.

The regional police mouthpiece asserted that the deceased was confronted by three unidentified individuals who subjected her to a violent act, leading to her death. Her body was found in a nearby cassava garden after a search led by her brother and the community.

The police have pledged a thorough investigation to ensure justice for the grieving family.

The deceased’s body has been transported to Nebbi General Hospital for an autopsy. The case has been registered under CRB 001/2025.

Police have also called on the public to remain calm and cooperate by providing any information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects.
