Rider dies on spot in Maracha accident
Preliminary investigations indicate the cause of the accident to be reckless riding by the motorcycle rider.
Maracha: Police in Maracha district are investigating a fatal accident that occurred at Ayii Bridge along Arua-Koboko.
The incident that happened on Saturday April 20, 2024, involved a numberless Bajaj motorcycle, red in color, chassis number MD2A18AY2LWL86050 ridden by 27-year-old Angurini Ponjio, a resident of Odrodroa cell, Motino ward, Maracha district.
The rider died on the spot, while his passenger, Embati Kennedy, 23, a businessman and a resident of Yebia village, Odru parish, Oluffe Sub County, Maracha district, was seriously injured.
Josephine Angucia, the West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, said that two were from Nyadri Market going to Arua City. On reaching the Ayii Bridge, the rider lost control, hence knocking the bridge guard, making them fall into the river.
When police got information about the accident, they visited and documented the scene, rushed the victim to St. Joseph’s Hospital Maracha for treatment, and conveyed the body of the deceased to the hospital mortuary pending a postmortem.
Angucia disclosed that the motorcycle was towered to Maracha Central Police Station pending inspection by the inspector of vehicles.

However, Angucia added that inquiries continue under Maracha CPS TAR 35/2024. ‘’We urge motorists to use the road carefully and abide by traffic regulations all the time in order to minimize such deadly crushes.’’
