Revellers destroy property as Musician Kapeke fails to perform at Adjumani show

The damaged police vehicle remains stationed at CPS for inspection.

Adjumani: Chaos erupted when irate music fans vandalized property worth millions of shillings at the Oasis Dynastic Music Club, following the absence of Kampala-based musician Kapeke, who was slated to headline a heavily promoted concert.

The incident occurred at around 2:00 a.m. at Lajopi Gymnasium Cell, Cesia Ward in Adjumani Town Council over the weekend.

According to a statement from SP Collins Asea, the North West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, the situation turned violent when fans, who had paid for entry, realized that Kapeke would not be performing.

“Supporters who had paid gate fees became unruly, causing a disturbance and damaging property at the event,” Asea said. “In response, police officers from Adjumani swiftly intervened to disperse the highly charged crowd.”

To restore order, police reportedly fired live bullets and tear gas, a move that eventually subdued the crowd but not before injuries and extensive damage occurred.

Two officers, CPL/DRV Ojara Samuel (No. 52214) and PC Meri Francis (No. 56408), sustained injuries from stones hurled by the angry mob. Both officers have been issued PF3 forms for medical care and are reported to be in stable condition.

Damages included; a police patrol vehicle (UP 7673), with the driver’s side window and mirror smashed and multiple televisions, plastic chairs, beer crates, bottles, and window panes at Oasis Dynastic Music Club.

Police have arrested eight suspects in connection with the violence. Those in custody include; Kebuka Pamela Tracy, the Operations Manager, Oasis Dynastic Music Club, Iceta Patrick, Grace Ukusi, Mundua Gloria, Obudra Joel, Andruga Ochora, Unziku Emmanuel and Igama Steven.

All are currently held at Adjumani Central Police Station as investigations continue. The damaged police vehicle remains stationed at CPS for inspection.

SP Asea assured the public that police are committed to maintaining order and that further updates will be shared as inquiries progress.
