Restore leadership academy to host the second ‘Gure Me Pongdwongo’
The event is expected to be a significant cultural gathering, and all are encouraged to attend.
Gulu: The leadership of Gure Me Pongdwongo (Acholi Convocation) has announced that the second edition of this cultural event will bring together Acholi people from across the world.
The event will take place at Restore Leadership Academy, situated along the Gulu-Juba Road.
This announcement was made by Mr. Otto Ventorino, Head of the Taskforce for Gure Me Pongdwongo in Greater East Acholi. According to Ventorino, the event will kick off with arrivals on December 26th, 2024, followed by the official program from December 27-29, 2024.
The decision to move the venue was prompted by the expected increase in the number of participants and the need for additional amenities such as water and electricity. Located just 12 km from Gulu City, Restore Leadership Academy is equipped to accommodate the growing number of attendees.
The theme for this year’s event will remain the same: “Ribbe ki Dyere Pi Roco Paco, Kati Woko, Ka pe yin ci Anga?” which translates to, “What is the meaning of our history, our traditions, and how do we preserve them for future generations?”
The event is expected to be a significant cultural gathering, and all are encouraged to attend.
Meanwhile, Laker Memorial Nursery and Primary School, located in Pager Division, Kitgum Municipality, has continued its partnership with Dutch friends by donating a total of nine goats to the families of outstanding and committed pupils.
This year, the school raised funds amounting to 300,000 shillings, supported by international friends, to buy and donate the goats. According to the school administrator, Mr. Olworo Bright, last year, 50 pupils were supported with goats to help empower their families economically. This year, the school has continued the initiative by providing the goats to families with children showing exceptional academic commitment.
The goats were handed over by the Pager Division Chairperson, Hon. Morish Oyoo Santo, who confirmed that the donations were well-received by the families. Hon. Oyoo emphasized the importance of livestock keeping in sustaining livelihoods and furthering education, urging parents to engage their children in this form of economic empowerment.
The goats were handed over to families with children enrolled at Laker Memorial School, including those from child-headed households. The initiative seeks to ease the financial burdens faced by parents in paying school fees while also supporting the families’ economic stability.
Mr. Akera Johnson Okella, the School Director, explained that the goats would provide long-term benefits to the recipients, allowing them to improve their livelihoods and further their children’s education. The school, established in 2013, currently serves 272 pupils in its Nursery and Primary sections.
