He revealed that they have gone over 20 years without clean and safe water in their area.
Kikuube: A total of 58 boreholes have been constructed in Buhaguzi East Constituency’s Kikuube district in a bid to increase access to clean and safe water for the people.
However, according to the leaders in the area, there is still a need for clean and safe water in most villages of the constituency.
Evasi Kaliisa, a resident of Kizinga-Kaina, revealed that the water they were using was very dirty in that even the food they cooked turns dirty due to the water, adding that their husbands used to ask them why they don’t wash the food before cooking it.
Kaliisa says they had now reached a level of bathing in turns due to the scarcity of water, and they even share the water with animals since it’s the only source of water in the area.
Francis Kisoro Nyaika, the LC1 of Kizinga-Kaina village, revealed that they have gone over 20 years without clean and safe water in their area and thus appreciated their area MP Itaza for bringing them safe water.
Kisoro says his office has been getting a lot of cases of women and children fighting for water since its scares, and many have been spending most of their time in hospitals treating diseases that come along with using dirty water.
He says they are happy because of the clean water, saying the residents of Kaina are now going to develop since they will not be frequently going to the hospital.
Robert Kyamanywa Mpanimanya, the Deputy Mayor of Buhimba town council, says Buhimba has a lot of cases of domestic violence, waterborne diseases, school dropouts due to early marriages, and pregnancies, all caused by water scarcity in the area.
Steven Aseera Itaza, the area MP of Buhaguzi East Constituency, disclosed that access to clean and safe water is still a challenge in the area, which has caused a lot of waterborne diseases, among others.
Aseera says his office, together with the Itaza Development Foundation, decided to partner with various development partners to ensure that people get clean waters, saying Islamic education initiative organizations funded by United Arab Emirates have supported the construction two boreholes in the villages of Kigaya, Kigaba-Njonjo, and Kizinga-Kaina.
He says they have so far constructed 58 boreholes in the constituency, adding that women are the most people who have suffered so much in the struggles of water, thus calling upon different development patterns to come on board.
The politician advised the residents to come up with water committees to help in repairing the borehole in case it gets faulty.
