Relief as Buliisa Health Centre IV resumes theatre services
“The theatre has been nonfunctional for a long time due to lack of adequate equipment and theatre specialists,” Dr. Otim said.

Buliisa: Residents of Buliisa District are expressing relief following the resumption of theatre operations at Buliisa Health Centre IV in Buliisa Town Council, after a long period of inactivity.
Community members told ugreports.co.ug that they had been forced to travel long distances to access surgical and maternity services at facilities such as Hoima Regional Referral Hospital and Masindi Hospital.
“About a month ago, my wife was referred to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital after failing to deliver. I incurred extra costs for transport and taking care of her at the regional hospital,” said Gerald Lukumu, a resident. “I wouldn’t have faced such expenses if the theatre here was operational.”
Another resident, Michael Jakisa of Bugana Kataleba Village, welcomed the development, saying it would save families from unnecessary hardship. “My wife is about to give birth, and I’m relieved that even if she fails to deliver normally, she can now be operated on here,” he said.
Dr. Peter Otim, the in-charge of Buliisa Health Centre IV, confirmed the development on Thursday, October 30, 2025, saying the facility had been nonfunctional for a long time due to a lack of adequate equipment and qualified theatre staff.
“The theatre has been nonfunctional for a long time due to lack of adequate equipment and theatre specialists,” Dr. Otim said. “It has now been fully restored with support from the Ministry of Health and the Buliisa District Local Government.”
He revealed that since its reopening, three mothers have successfully undergone operations and are recovering well at the facility. “Since the reopening of the theatre, three mothers have successfully undergone operations and are waiting to be discharged,” he added.
Dr. Otim urged expectant mothers to seek services at the health centre instead of travelling long distances to Buliisa General Hospital or Hoima, noting that long travel often on motorcycles, previously posed serious risks to mothers in labour.
