Relief as Biiso residents access clean water
The new water source marks a significant step toward better living conditions in Bukumi village, enhancing health, convenience, and community harmony.
Buliisa: Excitement fills Bukumi village in Biiso sub-county, Buliisa district, as residents celebrate the installation of a new borehole, providing clean and safe water to the community.
The borehole, drilled by Sky Light Africa Limited, addresses the longstanding water scarcity in the area. Residents, including Richard Okech and Jofrey Okumu, shared their struggles, explaining how they previously relied on dirty water sources shared with animals, risking their health.
“The piped water we depended on was unreliable and often dry. Our only borehole had a fault, making life even harder,” they said.
Community members expressed their gratitude for the new borehole, highlighting its positive impact. “This will save time for women to focus on other domestic tasks, reduce conflicts over water, and lower cases of waterborne diseases,” said one resident.
Robert Ajaru and Marko Okengo also emphasized the relief the borehole has brought. “We no longer have to share water sources with livestock, which were dirty and posed serious health risks,” they explained.
Micheal Anwakani, acting LCI Chairperson of Bukumi village, applauded the initiative, noting how residents had to trek long distances for water. “This borehole is a much-needed solution to a problem that has plagued our village for years,” he said.
Emmanuel Okello, site supervisor for Sky Light Africa Limited, reassured residents of the company’s commitment to delivering quality work, promising that the borehole would serve the community effectively.
