Recognising PLU’s contribution to a historic victory
In many areas, PLU members worked tirelessly mobilising communities, spreading campaign messages, and sustaining the campaign’s momentum where logistical support was limited.
Op-Ed: The recently concluded campaigns that delivered a resounding victory of over 80 percent to President Yoweri Museveni were not achieved by chance.
They were the result of coordinated efforts, resilience, and sacrifice from various stakeholders across the country. Among these groups, the contribution of Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) commanders stands out and deserves formal recognition.
Throughout the campaign period, PLU commanders operated under challenging conditions. Without official facilitation, many committed their time, energy, and personal resources to ensure campaign activities reached even the most remote parts of the country. Their dedication reflected a strong sense of patriotism and loyalty to the cause they believed in.
In many areas, PLU members worked tirelessly mobilising communities, spreading campaign messages, and sustaining the campaign’s momentum where logistical support was limited.
Their presence ensured that the campaign remained vibrant and effective across different regions of the country. This level of commitment reflects a group that did not merely participate in the process, but one that sacrificed wholeheartedly for the overall success.
Recognising such efforts is not only fair but necessary. Awarding PLU commanders just like other stakeholders who played visible roles during the campaigns would send a strong message about the importance of valuing voluntary service, dedication, and grassroots mobilisation. It would also inspire continued commitment and strengthen unity among supporters.
As the country reflects on the success of the campaigns, it is important that no contribution goes unnoticed. PLU commanders have proven their worth through action, and acknowledging them officially would be a step toward honouring the spirit of collective effort that defined this victory.
In conclusion, giving due recognition to PLU is not merely about rewards. It is about appreciating sacrifice, encouraging participation, and reinforcing the importance of every stakeholder in shaping national outcomes.
