Property worth millions lost as fire guts YY bus headquarters in Dokolo

Dokolo: Police in Dokolo District, in coordination with the Norh Kyoga fire brigade and rescue services, are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fire that gutted a commercial building in Dokolo Town Council that is being used by the YY bus company as an office, store, and restaurant for an unidentified individual.
According to sources, on March 31, 2024, at approximately 6:00 a.m., Mr. Okidi Joram, a manager of the YY bus company Dokolo branch, was on his way to work with his colleague Asita Silas when a fire broke out inside their store or office.
It was reported that the duo was only able to save the office table.
Kia Dorine, a 28-year-old self-employed lady from Akaidebe Cell Central Ward in Dokolo Town Council, Dokolo District, later reported the incident to police.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga region police spokesperson, confirmed the report in a press statement issued on Monday, April 1, 2024, stating that the arson case was entered at Dokolo Central Police Station under CRB 190/2024.
He added that a team of police officers led by OC station Dokolo CPS, SOCO, visited the scene and recorded statements from relevant witnesses.
According to Okema, preliminary findings indicate that properties worth more than 30 million shillings were burned; however, the origin of the fire has not yet been determined, and investigations are underway.
