Masindi: The fourth suspect arrested in connection with the brutal murder of Dr. Jino Abiriga, the former acting Masindi district health officer, has been implicated in four other killings.
The lifeless body of Dr. Jino Abiriga, 58, was discovered on January 7, 2024, a few meters from his home.
Martin Kipsang was arrested on Thursday last week in Bukwo district after being trailed. Security sources revealed that at the time of the suspects’ arrest, he reportedly had three other reported murder cases linked to him in the Sebei sub-region and Bukwo.
The suspect joins the late Abiriga’s wife, Betty Cherotich, and her two biological children, who were detained after they reportedly tried to clean up blood that had spilled in the room where the doctor was reportedly murdered.
Detectives’ privy to the investigations told New Vision that preliminary information indicated that Abiriga’s wife hired killers to whom she promised one million shillings, and she had reportedly made a part payment of 500,000 shillings.
The suspect was reportedly sneaked into the deceased’s bedroom, where he pounced on the deceased, stabbed him in the abdomen, and also cut off his tongue and genitals.
Security sources revealed that Kipsang and others at large on August 27, 2016 allegedly participated in the killing of 64-year-old Frida Cherop Munanda, a resident of Kaworyo Village, Amanang Parish, Amanang subcounty in Bukwo district.
The deceased was hacked with a panga on the neck, and the said suspect remained at large.
In the second case, the suspect reportedly participated in the murder of 65-year-old Rudia Kokop Chemos of Cheboi village, Chebei parish, Amanang sub-county in Bukwo, and also attempted to kill her husband, 75-year-old Chepswo Erizaria, whom he left with deep cuts on his right cheek.
Kipsang and his accomplices reportedly hacked Chemos to death using the panga and made off with the deceased’s head, which has never been recovered to date.
Chemos was allegedly murdered following witchcraft allegations raised by one Selina Cheptegei, a resident of the same village, and one Kwemoi Levi, a nephew of the prime suspect.
It is also alleged that on July 30, 2019, at around 12:00 a.m., in Kapcheson village, Amanang sub-county Bukwo district, Kipsang was involved in the murder of a policeman, Corporal Samson Ndwerera, and attempted to murder Corporal Ronald Masasi and private Isaac Higenyi.
The suspect, together with others, hacked Ndwerera using pangas on the head and various parts of the body. He later died at Bukwo General Hospital while receiving treatment.
