Hoima: Parents and school directors have been cautioned to be security conscious of the kidnappers who normally ask for ransom at a head of school’s opening for the first term.
Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, has urged parents to escort their children to school or give them to responsible and trustworthy people to take them and hand them to the school authorities.
Hakiza says in some areas, you find kidnappers waiting for children on their way to or from school, then kidnapping them and asking for ransom from parents.
‘’In most cases, kidnappers wait for children on their way to or from school and later ask for ransom from parents.’’
The regional police mouthpiece advised parents to avoid giving school fees money to children to go to the bank because of the constant stress that they watch around the banks.
‘’Don’t give school fees to your children; kindly bank the money by yourself or use students’ pay codes,’’ he advised parents.
Hakiza also warned guest house owners not to allow students in their rooms, saying they should register clients and make sure they see their national identity cards.
He encouraged all schools and public places to have fire extinguishers, which must be valid since we are in the dry season and there are high risks of fires.
