Police warn of Valentine’s Day risks

Hoima: Police in the Albertine Region have cautioned all people intending to celebrate Valentine’s Day to keep peace and be security conscious in the various places they are celebrating it.
Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, reveals that Valentine comes with numerous crimes, among them domestic violence, alcoholism, and people fighting over men or women.

Hakiza says people always celebrate Valentine in different ways, but all in all, they should remain peaceful because, as police, they will not allow any kind of violence.

The regional police mouthpiece asked the public to report any suspected bad characters, especially those in crowded places like bars and other places of happenings that may tend to emerge.

Valentine’s Day did not come to be celebrated as a day of romance until about the 14th century. Although there were several Christian martyrs named Valentine, the day may have taken its name from a priest who was martyred about 270 ce by the emperor Claudius II Gothicus.
