The two children were successfully rescued around 8 p.m.

Kasese: Police in Kasese have successfully rescued two juveniles from the turbulent waters of River Mubuku, a tributary of River Nyamwamba.

The rescued juveniles are Mumbere Reagan, 12, and Mugume Devis, 8, both residents of Kisojo Lower, Mubuku Town Council.

According to SP Nelson Tumushime, the police spokesperson for Rwenzori East, the two children were fishing in the river unsupervised after a heavy thunderstorm around 6 p.m. The storm’s intensity overwhelmed them.

“A joint police operation involving DPC Him a division, SP Nerima Bwire Susan, and DPC Kasese SP Alfred Bagenda was conducted, and the two children were successfully rescued around 8 p.m.,” stated SP Tumushime.

SP Tumushime cautioned residents and parents to remain vigilant due to unpredictable weather patterns expected in the near future. He urged parents, especially those with children living along rivers that often flood, to be more cautious.

Meanwhile, police in Kasese are holding two males in custody on allegations of stealing a pig valued at 200,000 UGX and weighing approximately 15 kg.

SP Tumushime informed this publication that the two suspects are currently detained at Kinyamaseke Police Station under Bwera Division, Kasese District.

The suspects, Masereka Simon (16) and Bwambale Ezra (15), both residents of Kanyatsi East Cell, Mailo Kumi Ward, Kinyamaseke Town Council, are accused of stealing the pig from Agaba Charles, a resident of Musomoro North Cell, Kinyamaseke Town Council.

“With the help of our highly trained police dog, who visited the scene to aid in the investigation, the two male juveniles were arrested,” says SP Tumushime.

“As the Easter festive season approaches, we appeal to the community in Kasese to stay vigilant and ensure the safety of livestock. We also encourage everyone to report suspicious activities to help curb the rising theft of livestock in the region,” he adds.
