Police officer rams into vehicle, dies on spot
The driver of the motor vehicle, Marcel Mbusa Wangahemuka, is currently in detention as investigations continue.
Ntungamo: Police in Ntungamo are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal accident in which a police officer attached to the Muhanga Field Force Unit in Rukiga District lost his life.
The deceased has been identified as No. 51580 PC Wilson Turyahabwe, a 40-year-old male from the Munyankole tribe, who died instantly after ramming into the rear of a slow-moving motor vehicle, registration number CGO 5916AC22.
The vehicle, which lacked reflecting signals, was being driven by Marcel Mbusa Wangahemuka, a 52-year-old Congolese national from Kivu Province in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to Corporal No. 31726 Stanley Wakibi, a police officer from Rubaare Police Station, the accident occurred at approximately 5:30 AM on Friday morning at Omukenyanya Trading Centre along the Ntungamo-Kabale highway.
The motor vehicle, which was traveling from Kabaale towards Ntungamo, slowed down when the motorcycle, ridden by the deceased, collided with it from behind.
The police team, led by Corporal Wakibi, visited the scene, documented the incident, and transported the body of the deceased to Kabale Hospital Mortuary pending a postmortem.
The motor vehicle has been parked at Rubaare Police Station, and the motorcycle has been towed to Muhanga Police Station for inspection.
