Nairobi: A night of merry-making at the Imperial Lounge in Yatta, Machakos County in Kenya was disrupted in the early hours of Friday after a police officer opened fire after a disagreement over a woman.

Police Constable Fredrick Kipchoge from Matuu Police Station, caused considerable disturbance at around 2:40 am, prompting a staff member at the drinking joint to report the matter.

According to a police report seen by Citizen Digital upon arrival at the scene, officers found Kipchoge had already departed the lounge after noticing their presence.

He returned to the police station at 5:25 am, where he grabbed an AK-47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition from the reports office.

The firearm was designated for another officer assigned to patrol duties.

Armed with the assault rifle, Kipchoge made his way back to the lounge, and was followed by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) and additional police officers.

Upon confronting him, officers inquired about his intentions. Kipchoge claimed he wanted to arrest a man he accused of stealing his girlfriend.

In an attempt to disarm him, officers approached from behind, resulting in a chaotic scene where Kipchoge fired off all 30 rounds from the rifle. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident, and police were able to successfully disarm and arrest him.

He was subsequently taken back to Matuu Police Station, where he was placed in custody.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Yatta is currently conducting further investigations into the incident.
