Police investigate alleged kidnap of Muvawala

On the evening of March 7, 2025, Muvawala’s brother notified police that he had been found in Buliisa District.

Kampala: The Uganda Police Force has been monitoring social media reports regarding the disappearance of Muvawala Charles Bukenya, who allegedly resurfaced in Buliisa District after being abducted, according to Police Spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma.

Kituuma revealed that on March 5, 2025, Muvawala’s driver, Mr. Businge, reported his disappearance at Old Kampala Police Station, stating that Muvawala went missing at around 1:00 a.m.

According to Businge, Muvawala had called him to Happy Boys Bar in Nakulabye, where he was using the sauna.

“Businge arrived at around 10:00 p.m., and they remained at the bar until about 1:00 a.m. Muvawala then informed Businge that he was heading to an Equity Bank ATM across the road to make a transaction,” Kituuma explained.

However, after some time, Businge attempted to call Muvawala, but his calls went unanswered. Eventually, Muvawala sent a text message, claiming he had been abducted.

Old Kampala Police launched an investigation, and preliminary findings from CCTV footage show Muvawala leaving the bar and briefly conversing with unidentified individuals before taking a motorcycle to an unknown location.

On the evening of March 7, 2025, Muvawala’s brother notified police that he had been found in Buliisa District.

“When police re-engaged Mr. Businge about these developments, he stated that he would first consult the Secretary General and Deputy Spokesperson of the National Unity Platform (NUP) before providing further details,” Kituuma added.

Police have now called upon Muvawala and Businge to cooperate with investigators, emphasizing their commitment to establishing the facts behind the alleged abduction.
