Nwoya: In a remarkable display of resilience and faith, a solemn cleansing prayer was recently conducted following a deeply troubling incident involving Hon. Achan Judith Peace, the Woman Member of Parliament for Nwoya District.
The event was a direct response to an alleged ritual incident that reportedly took place at the home of her ex-husband in Alelele village, Oterem ward, Koch Goma Town Council on January 5, 2025.
According to eyewitnesses, Hon. Judith Peace allegedly entered her ex-husband’s home and reclaimed a vehicle, which was reportedly adorned with charms. The vehicle was later burned by local religious leaders, who deemed it spiritually compromised.
This incident prompted the ex-husband’s family to call for immediate spiritual intervention. Their grievances against Hon. Achan Judith Peace extend beyond this event.
Family members allege that she misappropriated 1.2 billion shillings and took an ambulance vehicle under questionable circumstances. Additionally, they have accused her of actions considered culturally offensive, including an alleged abortion, which is viewed as an abomination in Acholi culture.
Official letters summoning her to appear before Ker Kal Kwaro were issued in June and August 2022, underscoring the longstanding nature of these concerns.
The Cleansing Prayer was led by Reverend Morris Christopher of St. John Church of Uganda in Koch Goma.
The service included fervent prayers denouncing negative spiritual influences and calling for divine intervention. The congregation participated in symbolic acts of unity, including singing, praising, and walking around the family’s home three times.
Reverend Morris emphasized the importance of such prayers when families suspect spiritual disruptions, whether from alleged witchcraft or interpersonal conflicts. “What Hon. Achan Judith Peace did is concerning for someone in her position, especially considering she is already married to another man,” he stated.
The fallout from the incident has also led to an allegation of assault against her ex-husband’s wife, with a case currently under investigation by the Koch Goma police (Ref: 06/05/01/2025) for criminal trespass.
During the cleansing rituals, participants reportedly discovered unusual objects, including chicken feathers, unidentifiable herbs, and mysterious items in a black polythene bag. Some of these objects were allegedly found in the engine of the vehicle.
The ceremony aimed to restore harmony, invoke blessings, and dispel any perceived negative influences. It reaffirmed the belief that light symbolized by Jesus Christ will ultimately triumph over darkness, as referenced in John 1:5.
As the prayers concluded, the family expressed renewed hope for peace and thanked St. John Church of Uganda and all those who supported them during this challenging time.
In the spirit of Matthew 18:20: “For wherever two or three are gathered in My name, there I am in the midst of them,” the event showcased the community’s unwavering faith and unity in adversity.
