Buliisa: Parents in Buliisa District are commending the government for banning both private and government-aided schools from charging extra fees.
In a bid to make education more affordable, the government has banned both private and government-aided schools from paying extra fees, which include PTA, remedial learning or coaching, SMC, admission, and many others. The ban is from nursery to secondary school.
Jerom Uchamgiu, a parent from Biiso town council, however, stressed that though the government has stopped both private and government-aided schools from charging extra fees, sometimes they are not implemented.
He therefore asked the leaders to implement the ban in order to make education more affordable since most parents take their children to government schools due to financial constraints.
Ubedirwoth Onega, a resident of Kampala In most cases, a cell in Biiso Town Council’s children were missing lessons due to the above charges.
He is optimistic that his children will be able to attend lessons regularly if the ban is implemented.
Alex Okello Muzuga, a resident of Kampala B Village in Biiso Sub County, said the decision has come at the right time when learners have just reported back to school for the academic year.
He also echoed the need for the district leaders to implement the ban since, in most cases, leaders don’t follow up on such issues.
Charles Obedgiu, a resident of Kayira Cell in Biiso Town Council, stressed that they have spent a lot of money even in government schools, but now they are relieved since they have been paying a lot of money even in government schools.
