Pader district leader renews calls for hospital
Currently, the Pader District Health Department is conducting health outreaches to Pukor and Tee-Nam Subcounties from nearby health facilities.
Pader: Pader district leaders are urging the government to establish a district hospital to address the overwhelming health emergencies currently straining existing health facilities.
The district has 38 health facilities, including 2 health center IVs, 13 health center IIIs, and 24 health center IIs, but only 4 medical doctors.
Hon. Ocen Justine, the Pader District Vice Chairperson, LCV, and Secretary for Health, highlighted the fact that the ambulance provided by the Ministry of Health is insufficient to handle the increasing number of patient referrals.
Ocen appeals to the development partners to support the district health department, which is struggling with inadequate physical infrastructure and a staffing level of only 38 percent.
The Pader District local government plans to construct a Health Center III in Pukor Subcounty, which was recently carved out of Ogom.
Ocen further adds that the two subcounties, Pukor and Tee-Nam, currently lack government health facilities. ‘’Plans are in place to construct a Health Center III in Pukor Subcounty during the 2024–2025 fiscal year.’’
A similar facility is planned for Tee-Nam Subcounty, previously carved from Puranga, in the 2025–2026 financial year.
The politician raises concerns about the limited resources available for the construction process, despite the allocation of funds.
He appeals to development partners to support the district in extending health services to the residents of the two subcounties.

Records from the health unit show that in the catchment population, the expected number of women of childbearing age per year stands at 5,737 deliveries, and expected pregnancies stand at 1,366.
Meanwhile, the average live births stand at 325, with 110 normal deliveries per month and 66 C-section deliveries per month.
In 2014, the Pader district council demanded the Ministry elevate Pajule Health Center IV to a district hospital, but health minister Dr. Aceng said upgrading it would take time as the government would require between 5 and 20 billion shillings.
