Nebbi: The Nebbi Diocese Church of Uganda, through the Goli Central Archdeaconry, has launched an intensive four-day youth conference at St. Paul Church, Paidha Town Parish.

The conference, which runs from Monday to Thursday this week, targets youths aged five and above from nine parishes across the Goli Central Archdeaconry.

Rev. Isaac Rwothomio, the Parish Priest of Paidha Town Parish, officially launched the training on January 13, 2024. He noted that the primary goal of the conference is to strengthen spiritual growth, foster good relationships between parents and children, and emphasize the importance of respect for one another.

Drawing from Matthew 15:4, Rev. Rwothomio urged the youth to honor their parents in order to receive abundant blessings from God. He also called on adolescents to offer their lives to God, practice self-control over their bodies, and avoid immorality.

Emphasizing the role of youth in promoting active citizenship, empowering young people, and creating positive social change, the conference aims to provide a holistic approach to moral training.

Emmanuel Odubugiu, the Youth Chairperson of Goli Central Archdeaconry, shared in an interview with this publication that over 400 youths had reported for the event. He assured that intensive training would be provided by priests and catechists present at the venue. Odubugiu expressed his joy at the high turnout and encouraged more parents to send their children.

Robert Poimicik, a member of the organizing committee, assured attendees about the children’s safety, highlighting that over 20 security personnel were present to ensure safety at the event.

Several youths also expressed their gratitude for the opportunities to learn and grow. Jacob Pounegi, Youth Chairperson of Jangokoro Parish, encouraged his peers to apply the knowledge gained in their daily lives.

Mercy Yik Parwoth from Pagisi Church of Uganda expressed her happiness, noting that the training was already helping her to change her behavior, particularly her previously disrespectful attitude toward her parents.

Through this Youth Conference, the church aims to engage young people and provide opportunities for skill development, including leadership, teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking, thus preparing them for future roles and responsibilities.
