Over 30 mourners cheat death in Kabale-Mbarara road accident

The lorry reportedly lost control and overturned, causing multiple injuries.

Kabale: Over 30 mourners were left injured after a vehicle they were traveling in lost control and overturned along the Kabale-Mbarara Road on Thursday, September 4, 2025.

The tragic incident occurred at Omukenyanya, Rwentobo, as the mourners were en route from Kandago in Rukiga District to Rubaare Town Council for a burial ceremony.

According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle, a tipper lorry with an unidentified registration number was carrying approximately 55 mourners at the time of the accident.

The lorry reportedly lost control and overturned, causing multiple injuries.

The mourners were traveling to attend the burial of Joseph Kyomuhangi, who had died in a separate accident on Monday, September 1, along the same road in Kabalaga Village. That earlier accident also tragically claimed the life of a one-year-and-two-month-old baby on the spot.

The injured were rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital and Karuhanga Doctors Referral Hospital, where many are currently receiving treatment in critical condition.

Felix Turinawe, whose mother was among the victims, described the accident as a catastrophic and shocking moment for the families involved. “We never expected something like this to happen, especially while mourning another tragedy,” he said.

As of the time of filing this report, police had not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.
