Lamwo: The outgoing Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Lamwo, Oceng Geoffrey Osborn, has urged political leaders to show respect to the local population, particularly those who are poor.

He emphasized that these citizens are the ones who entrusted leaders with their mandates, making them the true authority-makers.

Commissioner Oceng made these remarks on the morning of Thursday, August 22, 2024. He highlighted that respect is a fundamental principle that every public officeholder must uphold.

He specifically discouraged the tendency of some leaders to undermine the poor, especially regarding farmland issues.

During his remarks, Commissioner Oceng also took the opportunity to commend the media outlets in Kitgum and the wider Acholi subregion for their exceptional execution of duties as the fourth estate of government.

He urged leaders to listen to the concerns of the local population and advised against internal conflicts related to the recent transfers of RDCs. Despite his transfer, Oceng pledged continued cooperation with all the relevant bodies he has worked with.

Oceng urged the Acholi people to take advantage of the ongoing rains and engage in farming activities.

Commissioner Oceng Geoffrey Osborn’s transfer comes as part of a reshuffle announced by President Museveni on Monday, August 19th, 2024. Oceng has been moved to Nwoya District, while Mr. Komakech William, the former RDC of Oyam District, has been transferred to Lamwo District.

Both are expected to vacate their current offices and assume their new roles before September 2, 2024.
